Skip Lunch and Feed Thousands of Kids
We live in a city of affluence but every year, over 1 million New Yorkers go hungry. One-third of that million are children! City Harvest is an organization that helps alleviate hunger in New York City. This year, City Harvest will rescue over 26 million pounds of food and feed over 260,000 people!
Tomorrow, May 12th, you can skip lunch to help fight hunger in our lovely city. The price of an average NY lunch – $10 – can help feed 15 hungry children and their families. Last year, more than 7,000 people from across the city raised over $400,000 in one day!
Join Appetite for Good by skipping lunch to help feed hungry children and families. A $10 donation will feed 7 kids for a week!
About Skip Lunch Fight Hunger
“Skip Lunch Fight Hunger is a citywide initiative that asks individuals to donate what they normally spend on lunch to help fight hunger in New York City. Skip Lunch Fight Hunger was conceived in 2002 by City Harvest board member Dana Cowin, editor in chief of Food & Wine magazine.
On May 6, 2009, some 7,000 participants from nearly 300 teams joined Skip Lunch Fight Hunger, raising funds to help feed hungry kids and their families by donating to City Harvest. In a single day, more than $400,000 was raised enough to help feed over 22,000 kids and their families for an entire summer.”
