100 Tons of Gourmet Food Goes a Long Way

City Harvest food rescue at 2010 NASFT Fancy Food Show

How many people can you feed with 200,000 pounds of food? Lots and lots, I hope!

On June 29th, at the conclusion of the 2010 Summer Fancy Food Show at Javits Center, NY, City Harvest rescued 5 (yes, FIVE) tractor trailers full of gourmet food that will go to feed hungry New Yorkers. For the last 20 years, City Harvest has partnered with the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade (NASFT) in the relentless fight against hunger. Two decades of no food wasted from the largest specialty food and beverage marketplace in North America. That’s an incredible feat!

City Harvest food rescue at 2010 NASFT Fancy Food Show

On a hot New York summer day with temperature in the 90s, 250 bighearted volunteers braved the heat and humidity to help City Harvest with its largest food rescue of the year. The Fancy Food Show provides some of the highest quality food for those in need – as I can attest to having tasted some delicious morsels on Sunday. A huge shoutout to the volunteers, some from American Express, Barclays Capital, and Credit Suisse, City Harvest for a success food rescue and the NASFT for its generosity! We are one step closer to eliminating hunger in the world!
