Cakettes For Charity!

Cakette Fundraiser

I’ve recently had a revelation about ways to incorporate my skills and time to help out my friends and my community. So what am I good at? Eating… Cooking… Baking… Sleeping… so I combined my powers and came up with cakettes! Not quite a cupcake but more like a mini-cake…just trust me, stay with me on this one.

Cakette Fundraiser

These Cakette’s are something special. Each cupcake has a crumbly graham cracker bottom – either regular or chocolate and then topped with your choice of batter: fresh strawberry cake, light lemon sponge cake, moist chocolate cake and a delicious carrot cake BUT WAIT we’re not done. Each Cakette is then finished off with either a cream cheese or buttercream frosting topped with all sorts of fun toppings like candied carrots, caramel (from scratch!), fresh strawberries or butterscotch chips. Is your mouth watering yet?

Cakette Fundraiser

This is my very first fundraising project so I am sure there will be quirks I need to figure out but the idea is simple: I am offering 5 types of cupcakes, selling them for $2 a piece (to Dallas residents only) and giving all proceeds to “The Man Who Never Cried”. You can place your orders through paypal at my ChipIn website or you can order with cash either through me or the numerous Cakette ambassadors I’ve recruited (aka my friends, WHOM I LOVE DEARLY!!).

I hope this will be a successful project that I can continue to work on to help raise money for other organizations in the future. You can find my recipes available in case YOU would like to start your very own cupcake fundraiser for the organization of your choice.

These tiny morsels of heaven are the perfect way to not only satisfy your belly but all proceeds go towards a particular cause, this month I am helping out my friend with funding his film project “The Man Who Never Cried”. To give you a little more information about the project, here are a few words from Andrew Lee, the producer of the film –

Dear family and friends,

For the past 10 years, I’ve been working away at this filmmaking thing, producing TV commercials, short films, training videos… But there comes a time when you try and make a power move to take all that you’ve done before and launch into something that will get you where you want to be. That time is ripe for me now. This short film “The Man Who Never Cried” is the short film that I hope will handily help launch my team’s careers from short form to feature films! Fortunately, we’re producing it as 1 of 5 finalists for the 2010 Doorpost Film Project short film contest. The same competition we were finalists in last year.

By now, you may have noticed all the crazy fundraising spam for my short film on Facebook, Google chat, websites, etc. We have been awarded $40,000 from The Doorpost and have currently raised about $10,000 so far in private and Kickstarter donations. So that’s $50,000 right off the bat- a fantastic start. But we are trying to raise more. How much more? Between 20 and 25 thousand dollars more… Keep in mind, that last year with Play Land we went 4 thousand dollars over budget, and it still felt like we were always fighting up hill. And then when we found out that the two winning films (Butterfly Circus and La Premiere) had both raised an additional 100K and 60K respectively – we realized that fund raising was kind of a necessary evil – especially if you want to deliver something ambitious like we are trying to do with “The Man Who Never Cried.”

Cakette Fundraiser

So we’re going to attempt to raise $12,500 of that money through a website called Kickstarter that’s proved to be very successful in raising additional money for low budget movies and other creative projects. You can check it out to learn more.

So, I’d obviously love it if you guys helped out in any way possible, whether if it’s by donating a little money or simply by passing this link along to your friends and family. Through Kickstarter they can donate as little as $10 or as much as $5,000! We’ve also put some great incentives in place to inspire people to donate – like free T-shirts, posters, tickets to the premiere, Special Thanks in the Credit, a visit to the set, or even a personalized video from our director where Bradley will eat an entire onion (not joking…it’s a joke from the movie).

If you are uncomfortable sending money online and prefer to write a personal check, that’s fine as well. Kickstarter takes 5% of whatever money you raise so obviously we’d like to keep as much of our cash as possible. That being said – Please do not feel in any way required to donate – I know there are more important things in life like babies, moving expenses, house expenses and other things that should be your financial priority.

However, if you are interested and willing I would be incredibly grateful. You’ve all been so supportive of my passion over the years (some of you briefly) and for that I’m already in debt to you. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about anything. I’m incredibly proud of our if we can get the proper tools to execute the way we see it in our heads.

Love you all,
Andrew (producer of “The Man Who Never Cried”)

Great news is that they’ve reached their Kickstarter goal of $12,000 but still need to raise an additional $9,000 to get the film up and running. My goal is to raise $500 to help support the cause by promoting my cakettes to friends and family in the Dallas area. This is my first experience with any fundraising event so I am excited to see how things will turn out. Hopefully my kitchen won’t burn down as a result of it…

And with all charitable acts, sharing is caring so if you are interested in starting your very own cakette fundraiser you can find the recipes for all the cakettes at my food blog website, Joylicious. Have a great weekend y’all and if you have any friends in the Dallas area who enjoy stuffing their faces with awesome desserts, send them my way!
