Baking for Good, the online bakery that supports charities and non profits, is currently partnering with the Gulf Coast Fund to support local organizations in the gulf. Baking for Good founder, Emily Dubner, sat down with Appetite for Good to chat about the new partnership and about the company’s future growth plans.

As much as I like the idea of eating locally, I had always thought it was the kind of thing more suited to midwesterners or Californians, not New Yorkers. After all, a menu item boasting of striped bass freshly caught from the Hudson River sounds far from appetizing.

Compassion. That’s not a word that comes to mind when someone mentions a Michelin star restaurant in New York City. You probably think “extravagant” or “exotic”. But compassion is exactly what Eric Ripert of Le Bernardin and David Chang of Momofuku Ko are.

I found myself on Sunday evening with an intense craving for seafood. But what’s a do-gooder to do when miles away an oil slick the size of Delaware threatens to wipe out enormous populations of fish, crustaceans, and mollusks? Browntrout, a new restaurant in the North Center neighborhood of Chicago, turns out to be an excellent solution.
