Appetite for Good

The American India Foundation’s third annual benefit “Let’s Make a Change Together” was an evening dedicated to fostering opportunity. The sold-out event raised funds and awareness for SAATH, a Gujarat NGO. The event featured a rigorous itinerary and a delicious menu catered by top New York restaurant Mint.

Not every charitable event requires a fancy buffet of designer food or a 5-course meal to keep the crowds satisfied — restaurants are frequently helping out by feeding the empty tummies of charity racers. My mother and I have walked in (we plan on running this year!) the Revlon Run/Walk For Women the past 6 years in NY.

It was 5pm on a spring like Thursday evening and the InVenture team was scurrying about the venue. Stuffing informational leaflets in here. Making sure the food was warmed over there. Pinning and tucking and nipping away, we were on a mission – to prepare Arlo & Esme located at E. 1st and Houston, our generously provided event space, for our InVenture inPilot Launch Party!

When Faith Huckel, Executive Director of Restore, first learned about the issue of sex trafficking in New York City in 2003, her initial reaction was absolute disbelief. How could there be tens of thousands of internationally sex trafficked women in a glamorous city like New York, she thought.

Have you ever gone a whole day without making a choice for yourself? Couldn’t choose what kind of food you wanted to eat for lunch? Couldn’t leave your house to go outside? At the first Restore Freedom Gala, Faith Huckel, Executive Director of Restore NYC, spoke about the ability to make “choices” for ourselves.

StreetWise Partners held its Third Annual Taste of Success event on February 23 at City Winery in Tribeca and the evening was, well, quite a success. Luckily I was able to take a quick tour of the landscape before the crowds started rolling in. Overwhelmed, I decided to start with a drink.
